Fereej Abdul Aziz

Fereej Abdul Aziz is a neighbourhood in Doha that was dismantled to make way for new infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. I spent a brief time there just before its transformation, meeting and photographing numerous male immigrants who had lived and worked in Doha for decades, sometimes spanning three generations. These images are likely their last record in the area before their displacement and return to their home countries. The series focuses on the nomadic men and their spaces. Men in the same area live together in temporary rooms (hotbeds), longing for a stable life and trying to foster a sense of community and support.
