I am Jorge Luis Diéguez, a Peruvian-born artist currently based in London. Growing up in Lima, a densely populated and largely unplanned city characterised by its lack of architectural coherence, fostered in me an appreciation for forms and patterns that often appear disjointed or fragmented. The city’s unique aesthetic and complex urban fabric have profoundly influenced my work, particularly in the way I explore the relationship between human beings and their constructed environments.
The desert landscape surrounding Lima served as a constant backdrop throughout my upbringing; an expansive, largely untouched space that evokes a sense of purity through sustained observation. This vast terrain offered me opportunities for deep self-reflection and continues to inform the meditative and spatial qualities present in my work. My artistic practice is driven by a fascination with abandoned and disrupted landscapes, through which I investigate the social and environmental tensions arising from land appropriation and mass human displacement.
I hold degrees in Cinematography and Architecture, both of which have significantly informed and shaped my artistic practice, as well as a Master’s degree in Photographic Studies.
My work has been exhibited and published, and it is part of the Jan Mulder Collection.
